Learn how to work with lettering templates

With every issue of Simply Lettering magazine, we give you some beautiful lettering templates, which you can recreate in your own artwork.

In this handy video, lettering expert and Simply Lettering Commissioning Editor Lou Collins explains how to work with templates using two techniques – the pencil shading method and using carbon paper.

Once you have transferred the rough outline of the template to your paper, you can create the look using your choice of pen. Templates work equally well with dip pen or brush pen calligraphy as they do with faux calligraphy, making them a versatile and reliable way of creating beautiful designs.
